Profoto’s New Connect Trigger Has No Buttons

March 27, 2019

By Greg Scoblete

Profoto’s newest flash trigger is a radical reinvention of the concept: it has no buttons and no menu. It’s just a smooth, black circle that sits on your hot shoe.

Dubbed the Connect, it has just three modes: auto/TTL, manual and off. You can select one of these three options by rotating the Connect.

If you want to make any further adjustments to your flash, you can pair your smartphone to the Connect via Bluetooth and use the Profoto App to make those changes.

The Connect can control any AirTTL-enabled Profoto flash. Versions will be sold for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and Olympus. Its battery is good for about 30 hours and Profoto says you’ll get a range of 1,000 feet (line of sight, unobstructed).

The Connect is available now for $300.
