Sony has embraced full-frame cinematography with its Venice camera, but it hasn’t turned its back on the Super 35mm market, either. The FS5 II, announced at NAB, updates the popular  video camera with a new color science that Sony promises will render better skin tones. The FS5 II has an 11-megapixel Exmor sensor that can record 4096 x 2160 video at up to 120 fps and offers 2K recording at up to 240 fps using external recorders. You can record 10-bit, 422 full HD video internally and 4K RAW at 60p using an external recorder. The camera’s sensor delivers 14 stops of dynamic range.

If you want to record HDR video, the FS5 II has two options: a Hybrid Log-Gamma mode for quick turnarounds or S-Log2/3 if you want as much video data as possible. The FS5 II features 10 picture profile settings and an electronic variable ND filter with a range of 1/4 ND to 1/128 ND. It accepts E-Mount lenses. There’s Wi-Fi and a built-in wired LAN for video streaming, plus NFC and GPS. On the audio side, you’ll find a pair of XLR inputs plus a multi-shoe interface for mounting lights, mics and more.
