Object of Desire: Leica CL Street Kit

March 12, 2019

By Greg Scoblete

Leica has always been the object of special affection (or is that affectation?) from street shooters. Now Leica is making an explicit appeal with the new CL Street Kit. The Kit includes the company’s CL mirrorless camera packaged with the 23mm Summicron-TL f/2 ASPH lens with a street-photo-friendly 35mm equivalent focal length. The 24-megapixel CL has an APS-C-sized image sensor and an L-mount (the very same licensed by Panasonic and Sigma last year for their own products). It accepts Leica’s TL and SL series lenses or M and R series lenses with an adapter. The CL delivers an ISO range of 100-50,000, burst shooting up to 10 fps and a 3-inch touch display. You can record 4K video at 30 fps or full HD video at up to 60 fps with focus peaking.

The included 23mm f/2 ASPH lens stops down to f/16 and can focus on objects as close as 13.8 inches from the front of the lens. Thanks to a manual focus override function, you can manually tweak focusing even when the CL is in autofocus mode. The Street Kit also includes a handgrip, a black leather camera strap and a pair of batteries to keep the CL up-and-running while you’re out shooting.

PRICE:$4,195
