The 6K RED Dragon

By Romy Ashby

As the next evolution of RED’s sensor program, which began seven years ago, the 6K Dragon is making a tremendous leap forward from what is presently the most powerful imaging device in the industry: the 5K Mysterium-X sensor. While the 5K M-X gets almost 14MP per frame on both motion and stills, the Dragon will get 19MP per frame, punching up the resolution by more than 40 percent and generating crystal-clean images—cleaner than the already stunning images of the current sensor—even in the most stressful shooting environments.

Good news for existing RED Camera users: upgrading to the Dragon will not require an overhaul of equipment. Existing EPIC and SCARLET brains with M-X sensors will be upgraded to the Dragon, so that means existing accessories, rail components and modules are compatible, making the transition a seamless experience.
