Dear readers,
PDN is pleased to introduce the new PDNOnline.com. Our redesigned
site has been months in the making, and we hope it remains your
favorite source of news and information about professional
photography. The new site brings together several PDN brands under
a new, easy-to-navigate design:
PDNOnline,
PDNPulse, the
PDN Gear Guide,
PhotoServe,
Photo
Source,
PDNedu,
PhotoPlus Expo, and all our
contests.
We've added new features to make our sites more useful and
interactive. Our new search engine is faster and smarter, and
searches several years of PDN and PDNOnline stories, as well as our
PhotoServe directory. Our subscriber login system has been
improved. For the first time, you can leave comments on stories.
You can keep track of friends and colleagues on our PDN Compass
networking service and interact with fellow photo professionals in
our much-improved forums. Our new calendar will help you find
events and exhibitions in your area and remember major contest
deadlines. And a new Multimedia page houses exclusive video
interviews and slide shows.
To help make your transition to the new site smooth and easy, we've
created this list of frequently asked questions. Have a question
you don't see addressed here? Please tell us! You can send it to
us:
editor@pdnonline.com.
Thanks for your continued readership and support.
Sincerely,
The PDN team
Where are the interactive forums? What happened to my old
bulletin board posts?
The forums are now located on our Community page (accessible
through the menu bar at the top of this page). To use our new forum
platform, you will need to create a new, free user account. You'll
only need to do this once and it will only take a few minutes of
your time. All the posts from the old forum are still available in
an archive.
Once you've created a new profile, you can also enter your
location, travel dates and other information in PDN Compass.
What is PDN Compass?
On the Community page, you'll see PDN Compass, our latest effort to
help bring members of the photo community together worldwide. PDN
Compass offers photographers a way to pinpoint their locations and
travel schedules on a global map that creatives can use to find
photographers available for assignments in any region of the world.
PDN Compass is an open resource for all photographers who sign in
and become members, as well as art buyers, art directors, photo
editors and anyone with an interest in the photo community. It's
completely free.
What happened to PhotoServe?
PhotoServe, our visual directory of photographers, has taken on a
new design but still has all of its familiar features. And now,
PhotoServe directory listings and stories will show up when you use
the search bar at the top of any page on our site.
I have a link on my Web site to an archived PDNOnline story.
Will it still work?
Probably. All of our old stories have been re-archived under new
URLs, but many old URLs will still work. Whenever possible, we
recommend linking to new URLs instead of old ones. You can use the
search bar to find any story in our archive at its new URL.
Where do I find information on one of PDN's upcoming
contests?
Click on the "Contests" tab on the navigation bar to find
deadlines, submission guidelines and information on past winners of
PDN's contests.
Does my subscription still work for accessing the paid content
on this site?
If you're a subscriber to PDN and activated your log in on the old
site, your password and log in will still allow you access to all
the subscriber-only content on the new site. As a reminder, most of
the stories on PDNOnline and all the forums are free, but some news
and feature stories are available only to subscribers of the
magazine. To subscribe to the magazine, click on the SUBSCRIBE TO
PDN link in the menu bar at the top of this page.
Do I need to be a PDN print subscriber or a PhotoServe member to
access PDN Compass, forums and other interactive services on the
new site?
No. These new services are free.
I get PDN magazine, but I've never activated my online
subscription. Should I bother?
What are you waiting for? Grab the mailing label from your
magazine, and visit our subscriber activation page (accessible
through the LOG IN link in the menu bar). Once you've logged in,
you can get access to all the premium content that's available only
to subscribers: Extra online-only feature stories and survey
results, valuable client information, in-depth articles about
finances, self-promotion, business and marketing advice and more.
I have been seeing that annoying Nielsen pop-up survey over and
over again. Is there something you can do about this?
Readers who experienced this problem will be pleased to know: The
survey has been disabled while we launch the new site and continue
to roll out new and improved features in the coming weeks.
Part of the problem was that the survey was
attached to all of PDN's sites: PDNOnline, Gear Guide, IPNStock,
PDNEdu, and so on, so every time a viewer moved between sites it
reappeared. Now that all the sites are combined in PDNOnline, that
shouldn't be a problem.
The survey is intended to provide the editorial,
marketing and circulation departments with information on our
readers. The survey will be enabled again in about a month, but
with recent adjustments to the survey and the redesign of the PDN
Networks, you should only see it 4 times a year --not several times
a day.
Please keep in mind that if you use a
different browser, access PDNOnline from another IP or clear out
your cookies, the site won't recognize that you've been to the site
before, so the survey may re-appear.
How can I find out when new features, news or product reviews
have been posted on your site?
Our popular email newsletters will keep you up to date on what's
new on the site. Click on the FREE NEWSLETTER button on the
navigation bar to sign up.
If you use an RSS aggregator (such as Google Reader, My Yahoo! or
Microsoft Outlook) you can subscribe to our RSS feeds. Click on the
RSS link just above the menu bar at the top of this page.
What happened to those interviews and slide shows you did with
David LaChapelle. David Bailey, Lynn Goldsmith, Richard Avedon,
Howard Bingham, Arnold Newman and dozens of other legendary
photographers?
The Legends Online gallery is still in our archive; you can find it
by clicking on the RESOURCES tab in the navigation bar.
What is your site's policy on safeguarding personal
information?
Please
click
here to read the Nielsen Business Media privacy policy.
I still have a question that you haven't addressed here. What
should I do?
Please send it to
editor@pdnonline.com. We'll
get back to you as soon as we have an answer, and then we'll add
your question to this FAQ page. We'll be making small changes to
the site over the next few days and we appreciate your feedback!
