December 02, 2008 Karen Kasmauski established her international reputation shooting for National Geographic and focusing on "one-word stories," which she defines as "complicated stories on topics that weren't obviously visual," such as aging, radiation, migration, immigration, population, genetics and AIDS. Dispatches from the Front Lines of Global Health (National Geographic, $30), Kasmauski compiled 15 years of her National Geographic one-word stories into a weighty documentary on global health issues. The fundamental difference between Impact and Nurse, however, is that while Impact was created from magazine assignments, Nurse was commissioned by Emory University in Atlanta.
