Picture Story: Thomas Dworzak's "Georgian Diary"


December 02, 2008 Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak was scheduled for surgery to repair a herniated disk suffered in Iraq when the news broke that Russia had invaded the former Soviet republic of Georgia on Friday, August 8. The following Monday, two days after surgery, Dworzak was on a Turkish Airways flight to Tblisi, the capital of Georgia. So, as a veteran conflict photographer, he was determined to cover the invasion of what he calls "my beloved Georgia."
