Object of Desire: ARRI Ready-to-Shoot Kit for Blackmagic Cinema Cameras

If you follow the world of small digital cinema cameras, you’ll know the name Blackmagic, which has been one of the most talked about companies this year outside of Red. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera was announced at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show in April and quickly drew attention as much for its ability to shoot 2.5K RAW video as for its small size and relatively low estimated cost: $2,995.

Now another well-known name in cinema gear has stepped in to create an industrial-strength camera rig and accessories for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. The Munich, Germany-based ARRI, which has been making motion picture equipment since 1917, unveiled its Ready-to-Shoot Kit for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and the setup goes a long way to help turn this upstart video device into a serious player.

The kits start at $1,200 and include ARRI’s Mini Base Plate MBP-3 and Cage System, providing a discreet way to add accessories to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera via standard 3/8-16” and 1/4-20” interfaces. There’s also the universal Cable Safe CCS-1 system, which shields internal electronics from wear and tear when using HDMI, USB or audio cables.

The ARRI kit is modular and multiple configurations are available. The basic setup adds an aluminum support arm for the left side, giving you a way to attach handles and accessories, while still providing access to the handgrips and controls. The premium package comes with a hot-shoe bracket to prevent camera body flex.
