Winter Light

I always get excited to take pictures in the winter. Of course its fun to shoot during the holidays, but that's not it. I also love to shoot in the snow, but that's not it either. The thing that inspires me every winter is the light! That low, harsh wonderful winter light. It makes dramatic shadows and great highlights on everything. Get out in the morning and look at how everything looks more exaggerated. How the long shadows can put an exclamation point on images of buildings or trees that appear more mundane when the sun is high in the sky in the summer. The same goes for the afternoons as the sun pierces the afternoon sky. Personally, I love to play with the highlights and silhouettes. Don't waste the next few weeks. Get out there and shoot. Oh yes, and don’t forget to bracket.
