To my mind a great photograph is a great photograph. If you have to spend a lot of time discussing the ideas behind a photograph its usually because the photo isn't very good. Talk, talk , talk... I love to talk about "photography", but as simplistic as it sounds, when you see a good photograph you know it. As Louis Armstrong said when asked what is jazz "If you have to ask, you'll never know."
So, my answer is: No photography hasn't become too conceptual, but as always, people often try to justify bad art with ideas.
